April and Derrick are young, married, and in love. He's a chef, she's a medical student. Their lives are just about perfect except for one thing: unlike when they first got married, they're now both so busy that they've let months fly by without a single intimate night.
Desperate to bring an end to their 'cold streak,' April gets an idea: she turns to her best friend Christy - who, with her husband Matt, practices open marriage - for help. She convinces Christy and Matt to help her and Derrick rekindle their intimacy by having a one-night stand...all four friends. Together. But it's not long before this decision starts to alter both marriages and all their friendships in ways they never could have imagined.
The four friends quickly discover that they've turned a corner, and there's no going back. It's impossible to unring the bell. With Derrick instantly filled with regret and Matt discovering newfound feelings for April, things get complicated in a hurry.

Director Statement
The origins of "Four of Hearts" date as far back as 2004, when I set out to come up with a feature film concept that could be executed on a shoestring budget. The idea of two couples finding themselves caught in a web of emotional entanglements seemed to fit the bill perfectly. After a few attempts at “cracking” the screenplay, I ultimately deemed the story not-quite-ready and placed on the proverbial back burner.
And there it sat. Until 2010.
Having relocated to Los Angeles and worked for several years as a television writer, I felt I was finally ready to do justice to the idea. The first order of business was the decision to toss out all the original script notes and start from scratch. After several drafts and a few title changes, "Four of Hearts" was on track to begin production.
With script finally in hand, my first phone call was to actor Darrin DeWitt Henson, with whom I’d worked on the Showtime original series "Soul Food" years earlier. Darrin, who’d been looking for a feature project to produce, not only signed on for the role of Derrick but came aboard as a producer. With the help of Emmy Award-winning casting director Kevin Scott, the rest of the cast quickly fell into place.
Principal photography began on September 18, 2011, and wrapped two weeks later.
